My Story

"Hello! My name is Samuel. I love playing football with my friends at school. My favorite meal is pilau, which we enjoy eating at school. I love my school because we are taught many important things, including how to be responsible. We also have access to a well-furnished library, we eat balanced meals, and we have very good teachers who care for us. Thank you for considering walking alongside me and being part of my journey."
Samuel is industrious and very friendly. He enjoys studying Christian Religious Education and is always excited to come to school and learn new things. Samuel has two siblings: Harriet (12 years old) and Naomi (10 years old). They live together with their parents in a two-room house in the Gitari Marigu slum in Dandora Phase IV.
His father does not have a stable job and depends on casual labor at construction sites whenever opportunities arise. His mother works as a small-scale farmer along the banks of the Nairobi River.
Despite their hard work, the income they earn is not enough to consistently meet the needs of the family. Samuel is very grateful and happy to attend Kinyago Dandora Schools, where he continues to grow, learn, and build hope for a brighter future.
Kinyago-Dandora Schools
The Kinyago-Dandora Schools are located in the slums of Nairobi in Kenya, East Africa. Kenya’s population of more than 31 million has suffered greatly in the past few years due to epidemics of malaria, cholera, and AIDS and to a devastating East African drought that caused mass starvation across the country.
Primary Education ~ Kinyago-Dandora School (KDS) has 592 students enrolled in primary classes (pre-school-8). Academically, KDS is one of the top schools in the district with a pass rate of 85%. Our students often win local music and sports competitions.
Secondary Education ~ Students leave KDS primary school well-prepared for the transition to our Kinyago-Dandora Secondary School (KDSS) which is one of the few in all of Kenya with a formal music program an d computer lab. KDSS has been ranked by the Kenyan Ministry of Education as one of the best schools in the Njiru District with a pass rate of 100% for graduating seniors.
Post Secondary Education ~ The Bernard Sewe Scholarship Fund has been established to support KDSS graduates who attend colleges and universities across Kenya.
